Unitronic has set up a LIVE feed via their iPhones so everyone can keep up to date with everything that’s going on during Orangeball & Waterfest 16!

Cam 1 – Alex with the Orangeball Rally

Heading out with the Orangeball Rally, Alex will capture the highlights, the drama and the essence of the cruise down to Waterfest 16. Starting from Montreal, QC on Friday July 16th 2010, 9:00am sharp a convoy of 50+ cars will take over the streets and the highways heading down to the biggest VW and Audi show in North America. Don’t miss the action follow Alex live with his iPhone.

Cam 2 – Lavi Hi Rez Waterfest 16 Coverage

Lavi will bring us Waterfest in its wholeness, the installation, the cars, the booths, the action, the highlights, all this in high quality with his new iPhone 4G. Lavi’s unique perspective on the show will give viewers a one of a kind look at the in’s and outs of Waterfest and will make everyone worldwide see what they’re missing at this year’s event.

Cam 3 – Mike S with the Unitronic Crew

Heading out with the Unitronic Crew, leaving on Thursday July 15th 2010 at 6:00am, Mike S will Capture the last minute preparation before departure. The Unitronic Crew departure, the highlights of the trip down to Waterfest, the booth setup and some behind the scenes moments before, during and after the show.

Last saturday we made our way to Unitronic’s headquarters in Laval to check out the release of the 2009 edition of the Orangeball Rally DVD.

For those who don’t know, essentially the Orangeball rally is an organized drive to Englishtown, New Jersey which plays host to one of the biggest VW and Audi car shows in the world named ‘Waterfest’. Unitronic is a company that specializes in performance software for Volkswagen group cars so they partner up with Orangeball to provide an unbelievable experience for all involved. The results are filmed and then turned into a fun short-film every year. Check out the promo for the 2008 rally video here. Obviously, we were excited to see the 2009 film and Unitronic’s facilities…

Upon arrival, we were greeted by a thoroughly modern, clean and sleek reception area with a tastefully modified MarkIV R32 Golf staring us in the face. After admiring the R32 for a few more minutes we kept moving into the actual shop component of the facility.

The adjectives modern, clean and sleek were just as applicable here. The attention to detail was apparent from the moment we walked in. It was obvious by the state of their environment that the guys running the place cared greatly about Unitronic as a package not just a solution. After meeting Mike S, one of the owners, that passion became all too clear.

It’s amazing how you can tell from the moment you meet someone whether or not they take pride in what they do, and from the moment I met Mike, I sure could tell he was proud to run Unitronic. Rightfully so. As he gave me an in depth tour of the facility, all the little details; the quality of the furniture, the quality of the lightening, the overall cleanliness and design really add up to make Unitronic stand apart from all other car facilities I’ve ever encountered.

A peak into the engine dyno room summarizes what you can expect from Unitronic:

Everyone then gathered for the main event. Mike gave a short presentation on Unitronic: who they are, where they come from and what they do which was succeeded by Orangeball organizer Rick giving a short introduction to the 2009 film. I won’t give details on the film (ok fine, it was really good), but what I will do is direct you here.

The VW community in Quebec really is amazing. Filled with people I would call ‘just really good guys’. Orangeball and Unitronic are built around it, and it shows. There’s a sense of community and pride that is really rare these days. Everyone in attendance seemed to have a really great night, as did I and the rest of the epic-velocity.com team. There was just one little glitch… I walked away wanting a VW.

Orangeball Premiere at Unitronic

We all had a great time at Unitronic’s new shop in Laval, Quebec for the premiere of the 2009 Orangeball movie. We had a great time thanks to Hype Energy Drink for their supply of drinks for the 40+ attendees of the premiere.

Mike Z. drew a crowd as he showed off his new engine dyno by dynoing a big turbo 2.0TFSI motor delivering nearly 400 horsepower at the crank. Mike S. gave everyone a tour of the facility and then we started the speeches thanking the members and everyone who showed at the premiere. The movie was met with great applause and it couldn’t have happened without the participation of the countless members who rolled down to Jersey with us throughout the years. Big thanks to everyone involved!

Orangeball 2007

The 2007 Orangeball Rally from Montreal to Waterfest. This was the first year of the Orangeball Rally (and also the longest in terms of driving distance & time), this year also saw our first and only accident. Mark was driving down the I-87 when a blown tire laying on the highway was picked up by a passing Subaru and flung onto the front end of his Blue Lagoon MK4 Jetta. Mark was thankfully unharmed but the towing home put a serious dent in his pocket.

Being our first year at organizing this event, we ended up taking a much longer route than expected. Our intentions were to make the rally a whole day event with a pass through more winding back roads however this proved to be a big mistake when drivers were taking almost 12 hours to drive down to a destination that normally takes 6 to 7 hours to get to. Lesson learned!
